Hair Care Tips - 5 Great Foods For Healthy Hair

Hair Care Tips - 5 Great Foods For Healthy Hair

By Imani Brown

The science is relatively simple: in order to have healthy hair, skin and nails, you must eat a healthy well balanced diet. More specifically, for the healthiest hair you need a diet rich in protein, iron, vitamin A, B - 12, omega 3 fats, zinc, folic acid, selenium and biotin.

This is a fairly short list, and there is such a wide variety of tasty foods that you should never have any issue with including each of these essential elements into your healthy hair diet.

Once you know which vitamins and minerals you need, you can quickly compile a reasonable list of tasty foods with variety and map out a diet.

Lets first identify what each of these dietary components does for your hair, then we can identify the foods that contain them.

Why Do these Nutrients Help the Hair?

B - 12 - Promotes a healthy scalp and prevents dandruff. B - 12 also helps the body to absorb iron.
Biotin - Promotes cell regeneration and thickens hair strands.

Protein - Promotes growth and hair strength

Vitamin A - Promotes cell growth by helping the body to process protein and absorb calcium.
Iron - Strengthens hair growth and helps to prevent hair from falling out.

Folic Acid - Promotes cell renewal and therefore promotes growth.

Selenium - Aids in the production of sebum, the natural oil produced by hair follicle.

Zinc - Prevents shedding, promotes hair growth, and helps keep hair shiny with its natural color (prevent graying).

5 Healthy Hair Foods

Eggs - Eggs provide a simple source of protein, biotin, selenium and iron. Starting each day off with one or two boiled eggs with the yolks can be an excellent way to add these essentials to your daily plan.

Salmon - Salmon is one of the best natural dietary sources of omega 3 fats. It is also an excellent source of protein, B - 12 and iron.

Kale - Green leafy vegetables provide iron, calcium and vitamin A. In particular, kale is an extraordinary source of all of these healthy nutrients and more. It is one of the darkest green vegetables, and therefore contains high concentrations of the nutrients that it contains.

Poultry - Eat chicken and turkey for protein, but also for zinc and iron.

Black Beans - Legumes and beans provide protein, iron, zinc and biotin. Black beans, in particular, are a high performing super bean with high concentrations of nutrients.

Supplements

Of course, it is not enough to simply eat these vitamins and minerals, you must eat enough of them. Given this, it is reasonable to incorporate a Hair and Nail supplemental pill or other multi - vitamin into your daily routine to ensure the you get enough of each of these vitamins and minerals. One down - side to these supplements is that they are often quite large and hard to swallow. A simple solution to this is to also pick up a pill cutter when you purchase the supplements. Specific hair and nail enhancing formulas also often have a very strong and unpleasant odor to them. There's not much you can do about this other than to hold your breath and swallow!

4 Summer Hair Care Tips

By Cristian Hegemann

I believe that in the summer it is really important that you keep your hair protected, so that is basically what I am going to talk about in this short article.

Tip #1 - Trim your hair
The first step in keeping your hair healthy through the warmer season is to start with trimmed hair. You want to start with fresh ends because your hair is less likely to start splitting from the heat. If it's really hot outside, or if you take a really hot shower, the hair follicle will open and expand making your hair to look less shiny and things like that. It is going to start with the ends of your hair and it will continue its way up and you are more likely to see an increase of split ends during the summer. That is why I highly recommend getting rid of the bad ends now so that the tip of your hair will be very healthy right from the start.

Tip #2 - Use heat protection
If you like to spend a lot of time outside during the summer, like me, the thing you want to do is to invest a good heat protection. These types of products work just like sunscreens and they also provide protection against UV. Other that heat protection you could also invest in a cute hat that would protect the crown of your hair and let your hair breath at the same time. If you don't like hats maybe you can try out some scarfs that you can wrap around your hair - you know the old school stuff.

Tip #3 - Use a conditioner
Third tip is to use a conditioner that has high moisture content. If you do so your hair is less likely to expand from the humidity, because your hair is not looking for moisture in the air. If the first thing on the ingredients list on the back of your conditioner is water then you are on the right path.

Try to wear your hair in protective hair styles, don't go to crazy with the way you wear your hair in the summer, just save it for special occasions. If your hair can take it, by all means, wear it any way you like it, but if you have more sensitive hair, like I do, I wouldn't recommend wearing your hair out all the time in the heat. Instead, I would probably braid it or I would style it with conditioner and just leave it on, so you are deep conditioning your hair all day long.

Tip #4 - Use oils and vitamins

The fourth and last thing I also recommend through the summer is to make sure you continue your oil treatments, once every other week. Great oils for deep conditioning in the summer are coconut oil and olive oil. Don't forget to do this; your hair will really appreciate it.

During the summer season your hair needs an extra amount of vitamins and minerals so you might consider vitamin supplements like biotin.

The sun can do so much damage to hair as it can do to your skin, so there is no reason why hair should not benefit from the same amount of care and protection during the warm season.

Hair Care Tips From Professional Stylists

By Lisa A Mason

Do you want to have salon perfect hair every day? It's possible when you follow the tips and advice from your stylist, or when you use the following hair care tips from professional stylists. You may think that your hair is just "there" and that as long as you get it cut into a certain style and keep it clean and conditioned it will always look great. In fact, there are many factors of your everyday life that can affect your hair and can cause even a great cut to look terrible.

Here are some professional tips to keep your locks looking their best.

Strip Product Buildup
At least once a month, use a vinegar rinse on your hair after you shampoo to remove styling product buildup that can cause your hair to appear dull and lifeless. Vinegar is a natural product that will lift away the buildup from each strand without drying or damaging your hair or hair color.

Get Hair Cuts
Even if you are in the process of going from a short style to a longer style, make sure you visit your stylist every 6 weeks for a shape up trim to keep you from having that terrible growing out stage where your hair just looks shaggy.

Drink Water and Eat Healthy
The vitamins and minerals you ingest as well as the amount of water you drink do affect the health of your hair and can either improve or stunt the growth process. The healthier you are, the healthier your hair will be.

Protect Your Hair
We all know that sun can be bad for our skin, but it can also damage your hair. So can chemicals and water treatments like chlorine in a swimming pool. Before swimming apply a thick coat of hair oil, and leave it in your hair. This will help repel the chemicals and keep them from interacting with your color or causing your hair to dry out. There are several leave in conditioner products that will also help protect your hair from the sun.

Avoid Heated Styling Tools
Heated tools such as flat irons, blow dryers and curling irons damage your hair. When possible let your hair air dry and don't style it. Even if it's only once a week, this can help the condition of your hair.

In between visits to the salon, taking care of your hair will make you not only look better but will also make your stylist's job easier and can save you a lot of money on deep conditioning treatments. You certainly don't want to put off a coloring because your hair is so damaged.
